 In Arts and Culture, Attractions

1. Perfect Timing

Next week’s Ice Invasion is taking place during school winter vacation! The ice sculptures will be installed on Tuesday, February 16th. There will be 12 placed around the Quadrangle for enjoyment. The gates at the Quadrangle will stay open until 7pm, daily during the week! Plenty of time to enjoy the ice masterpieces, even at night with the lights all lit up.

Springfield Museums Hours:

Tuesday–Saturday: 10 am–5 pm
Sunday:
11 am–5 pm

** Quadrangle Gates will remain open until 7pm. Closed Monday, February 15th for President’s Day

2. Forecast is Looking Winter Wonderful

Next week’s forecast is going to be PERFECT for enjoying ice sculptures. The forecast is projecting plenty of 30 degree weather and possibly a little snow.  Dress warm, wear a mask, grab a hot coffee or hot chocolate from Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Granny’s Baking Table, or Mocha Emporium to add to the experience.

3. Make a Whole Day of it in Downtown

While you’re down here checking out the Ice Invasion, stay a while at the Museums with the family! The Blake House Cafe located at the Museums will be open that week. Or check out the many other downtown restaurants for lunch or dinner.

4. So Many Ice Sculptures, Majority of Them in One Place

In previous years the Ice Invasion has taken place all over downtown. This year, we’ve partnered with the Springfield Museums and are hosting the majority of them at the Springfield Museum’s Quadrangle. Parking will be available right on Edward Street at the Museums. In honor of Pynchon Park being open, connecting the Museums to the rest of downtown, there will be two located at Pynchon Park as well as one at the Regional Visitor Center and one at the downtown Starbucks at Monarch Place.

5. They’re BEAUTIFUL

Every year, downtown partners with local Ice Sculptor Joe Almeida, and each year they get better and better. Previous years the Ice Invasion has taken place during events such as AHL All Star Games, Red Sox Winter Weekend, this year we thought it would be perfect to host them on the beautiful Quadrangle. The theme this year, get ready to see museum displays turned inside out…
