Living in Springfield Downtown, Meet Stephen, Springfield Native Who Currently Lives at Springfield’s Classical Condominiums

 In Living in Springfield Downtown

Welcome to “Living in Springfield Downtown” a new blog series where we feature residents who call downtown their home. As we continue to social distance, and stay home, we thought this would be a fun time to get to know some of our Downtown Springfield residents.

MEET STEPHEN!

Age: 33

Occupation: Special Education Teacher

Currently lives: Classical High Condos

Q. HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN DOWNTOWN?

Stephen: 3+ years. I grew up in Forest Park, but then moved out west for college.

Q. WHAT MADE YOU MOVE TO DOWNTOWN?

Stephen: I wanted to witness and be a part of a revival of my city. There are a lot of great things happening down here, and I can walk to all of them!

Q. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

Stephen: I grew up in Forest Park, going to school at Sumner Ave Elementary, Chestnut Middle (the old one for a year!), and Central High. I’ve also lived in Oregon and Colorado. I work as a middle school special education teacher, working with students with Severe Emotional Disabilities. I also coach varsity boys soccer at Chicopee Comp. I love cooking or being outdoors when I get some free time!

Q. WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT LIVING DOWNTOWN?

Stephen: There are so many great things to do and see right in walking distance. I can get food, go to a museum, get great beer, and check out a hockey game without ever having to get in my car.

Q. WHAT DO YOU LIKE LEAST ABOUT LIVING DOWNTOWN?

Stephen: I’ve recently taken an interest in gardening, so the lack of space isn’t always ideal.

Q. DESCRIBE YOUR DOWNTOWN VIEW

Stephen: My view looks up State Street, and I see the flag on top of the Armory from my living room.

Q. FAVORITE DOWNTOWN RESTAURANT?

Stephen: Theodores. I also love Nosh, and Bar Kaya. But Theo’s has been a constant in my life for years!

Q. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN KEEPING BUSY DURING QUARANTINE?

Stephen: Cooking, reading, running, kayaking, hiking, teaching myself Spanish (shout out to Duolingo), taking art lessons (Skillshare). Doing whatever I can to stay sane!

Q. FAVORITE PLACE OR STREET YOU LIKE TO WALK ON

Stephen: I love walking down to Riverfront Park with my girlfriend and her daughter. Also, gotta love Mattoon Street.

Q. DO YOU ATTEND ANY EVENTS IN DOWNTOWN, IF SO WHAT ARE THEY?

Stephen: White Lion Wednesday, Thunderbird games, What’s on Tap

Q. HAVE YOU EVER ATTENDED A SPRINGFIELD BID SIGNATURE EVENT?

Stephen: Downtown Farmers’ Market at Court Square, MGM Live on the Plaza, Springfield Jam Fest, ate at a Springfield restaurant during Springfield Restaurant Week.

Q. HOW DO YOU TYPICALLY FIND OUT ABOUT DOWNTOWN EVENTS OR ACTIVES?

Stephen: Usually through social media, Masslive, and through friends and family.

Q. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE ADD ABOUT LIVING DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD?

Stephen: Can’t wait to see where it goes with all these new projects going on!
