September 11th Remembrance Ceremony
To honor the fallen firefighters, police officers, EMT’s and members of the armed services, the Springfield Fire Department and Springfield Police Department will hold the September 11th Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 10am in front of Springfield’s September 11th Monument in Riverfront Park.
The event will follow social distancing guidelines and be limited to the program’s 50 participants.
The program will include remembrances by Springfield Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi, Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood, Peter Pickering from AMR of Springfield, and Colonel Tom Bladen, Commander of 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base Massachusetts. There will be greetings from Mayor Domenic Sarno and invocation by Father Gary Dailey, Chaplin for the Springfield Fire Department. Anthony Cignoli will serve as the master of ceremonies.
The ceremony includes rolling out the equipment, tolling of the bell, laying of the wreath, a rifle salute and taps.
The event will be streamed live by WWLP-22News (wwlp.com) and will be filmed by Focus Springfield for broadcast at a later date on Springfield Comcast Channel 17.
The Spirit of Springfield is honored to assist in the annual event.
