What’s Happening at the Springfield Museums?

 

LUSTER: Realism and Hyperrealism in Contemporary Automobile and Motorcycle Painting

 

For over a century, automobiles and motorcycles have captured America’s popular imagination, making their way into movies, television, music, and fine art. This exhibition includes over 50 photorealist and hyperrealist paintings inspired by cars and bikes. Depictions of shimmering engines and glistening tanks will be featured alongside paintings of vintage automobiles, each rendered with exacting virtuosity. Through August 23,2020.

The Lion Guard: The Exhibit

Through September 6, 2020 –Springfield Science Museum

Experience an adventure through the Pride Lands where kids and families will be inspired to protect the Circle of Life. Children will have the opportunity to train in the Lion Guard’s secret lair, explore the power of teamwork by utilizing each of the Lion Guard’s unique traits to go on special missions, and discover and learn about the African savanna and the animals that live there.

Be greeted by Rafiki as he introduces you to the world of the Lion Guard.

The Lion Guard Lair
Work out with the Lion Guard in their secret lair before heading out on your Lion Guard adventure to protect the Circle of Life! Each member of the Lion Guard has unique strengths that they bring together to accomplish their purpose to defend the Pride Lands.

Bunga’s Adventure: Saving Kalinda’s Egg
Have fun joining Bunga for an adventurous and fun day in the baobab tree. Recover some stolen eggs, search for yummy grubs, and try to reach the baobab fruit hanging high in the tree-top.

Beshte’s Adventure: Too Much Rain
Join Beshte and his friends as they build a bridge across the flooded river and save baby animals from a landslide.

Ono’s Adventure: Looking for Trouble
Join Ono high in the sky to survey the Pride Lands and spot dangers from afar! From his vantage point, he can see all the animals and learn about their lives in the savanna.

Kion’s Adventure: Hevi Kabisa
Follow Kion through the Pride Lands to find the baby zebra and return him to his mother, confront Janja and his hyenas, and roar to send them running back to their habitat.

The Mark of the Guard
Join the Lion Guard for a joint mission, and earn your Mark of the Guard.

Hall of Heroes

Through September 13, 2020Wood Museum of Springfield History

Hall of Heroes brings visitors into the world of their favorite superheroes, crime-stoppers, gadgets and more through immersive experiences! As soon as you enter, you immediately find yourself in the thick of the action in an ambitious, custom-built space. Your journey takes you through several themed environments with surprises around each corner. An adventure fit for all ages that includes:

  • Challenging, highly engaging interactive displays and tests
  • Replicas and rare artifacts from past and present major motion pictures and television shows
  • Intriguing, informative displays with props, costumes and more
  • Fun, fascinating history and memorabilia

Learn the scientific circumstances that create superheroes, discover the ideals that heroes uphold, and push boundaries as to what it truly means to be heroic in the Hall of Heroes! Starting your journey in the ‘Identification Station’ guests will learn about, and get sorted into, one of the five disciplines that are the basis for all super powers: ‘Powers of the Body’, ‘Powers of the Mind,’ ‘Mastery,’ ‘Gadgets,’ and the ‘Elements.’ These five powers are reflected throughout the exhibit where guests can explore, learn and test their skills at the many interactive stations to find out what discipline of Superhero they excel in. The Hall of Heroes exhibit is truly a place to “Discover Your Superpowers!”

Hall of Heroes was created by Stage Nine Design and is distributed by Exhibits Development Group.
