What to Expect at This Year’s Star Spangled Springfield

 In News

1. Great Opportunity to Check Out the Newly Renovated Riverfront Park

The newly renovated and recently opened Riverfront Park will be home again for this year’s Star Spangled Springfield. Improvements to the park include a new playscape, a new splash pad where you can cool off before the fireworks, benches, and the September 11th Monument.

Pack a few lawn chairs and blankets and grab your spot on that beautiful new grass.

2.  Live Music and Entertainment

Enjoy live music before and during the fireworks. Schedule includes:

6 pm – Chloe Reed

6:30 pm – Falcetti Music

7 pm – Speaking program with Flyover 104th Fighter Wing

7:30pm – Maxxtone

9:30 pm – Fireworks by Grucci with musical simulcast by Mix 93.1. Music playlist includes USA by Bruce Springsteen, 24 Karat Magic by Bruno Mars, God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood, Think Freedom by Aretha Franklin, and more!

3. Come Hungry and Thirsty

There will be tons of vendors on site selling hamburgers, hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, fresh squeezed lemonade, ice cream, and much more. Some downtown restaurants will also be open like Max’s Tavern, Adolfo’s, Art e’ Pizza, and more.

4. What to Expect for Fireworks This Year

The fireworks display will begin promptly at 9:30 pm from the Memorial Bridge. We got some inside scoop from our friends at the Spirit of Springfield of what some of the fireworks will look like. They include U-S-A spelled out, blue and white star patterns, and some funky new ones like Saturn, mushrooms, and green and blue octopuses.

5. Where to Park

All on-street parking will be free Thursday due to the holiday. 1-91 Parking Garage will be open. Check out our Explore Map for more parking information and parking garage/lot locations.

6. September 11 Monument

There is a new American flag that flies over Riverfront Park. It is a symbol of freedom and part of the million dollar renovations to a park that has seen so much more activity since its dedication in June. The spray park has been a great spot for kids to cool off.

It is also where Springfield’s September 11th Monument stands as a testament to the 498 first responders who gave their lives protecting ours. It is also where the Spirit of Springfield will celebrate Independence Day with a Star Spangled Springfield.” – Judy Matt, Spirit of Springfield President

Thank You to the Spirit of Springfield and MassMutual!
