In the Spotlight will honor world-renowned singer Adele Addison as she approaches her 100th birthday.

Ms. Addison, an African-American soprano, performed in concerts and operas, with her most noted work the voice of Bess in the movie version of “Porgy and Bess”.

Adele sang her first concert at age 12 at Old First Church. Those were the first luscious notes from Adele’s soprano voice which led her to a professional career throughout the U.S., Europe, on recordings and film. Hers was the voice of Bess in the movie “Porgy & Bess”.

As a teenage attending Classical High School, Addison was selected to sing as a soloist with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall.

The program includes performances of Addison’s music, video of her life, and commendations.
