A Gathering: Works from ‘Contemporary Black American Ceramic Artists’
The first traveling museum exhibition to focus on Black ceramic artists working today, this survey of functional and sculptural ceramics shines a light on 36 innovative makers. Inspired by the recently published book Contemporary Black American Ceramic Artists and co-curated by authors Chotsani Elaine Dean and donald a. clark, the exhibition recognizes the important, current contributions of African American ceramicists.

In partnership with the Mi Museo Committee, the Museums will host a Latino Arts Festival to celebrate the myriad arts and rich cultures of the Puerto Rican, Cuban, Afro-Cuban, Portuguese, Mexican, Dominican, and Central and South American populations of Springfield. Participate in a community mural, create a music-maker inspired by Latin American instruments, and enjoy performances from local Latino musicians, poets and more!

Presented in partnership with the Mi Museo Committee, the Springfield Museums celebrate local Latino arts and culture. Live salsa music, food trucks, cash bar, community artwork, and the opening of a special photography exhibition called Latinos en SPRINGFIELD, Presente y Pasado, featuring members of the Springfield Latino community over the past four decades.

Oktoberfest, Springfield Museums
Celebrating its 12th year, Oktoberfest will feature beer tastings from local breweries and homebrewers, music (The Real DJ TJ Music Entertainment), hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar for additional beverage options – all on the Museums’ beautiful Quadrangle. This beer-tasting festival enjoys the highest attendance of our after-hours celebrations.

A collaboration among the Springfield Museums, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Fenimore Art Museum, this exhibition celebrates the vision and creativity of American women artists working across three centuries. It emphasizes varied experiences and approaches to artmaking, while pushing back against the underrepresentation of women in the arts. The 60+ works on view showcase how women—despite social, economic, and cultural barriers—express their identities and shape their herstories through artistic expression.

A six-week celebration of growing your heart three sizes with acts of generosity and kindness! The Grinch’s story will be highlighted by the Grinch’s Grotto, the Grinch Cadillac, a “sweet” gingerbread house exhibit, and weekend family engagement -- all beginning with the traditional lighting of the Quadrangle Green to kick off the season on the day after Thanksgiving.

The Outwin 2022: American Portraiture Today
Organized by the National Portrait Gallery, this exhibition draws from submissions to a triennial call for portraiture that is open to contemporary artists working across the United States. The Outwin 2022 features 42 works created between 2019 and 2021 that respond to contemporary issues and reflect on the Covid-19 pandemic. The Springfield Museums are one of only four museums across the country chosen for this exhibition (and the only one in the Northeast).

Astronomy Day
